Synthesis Technology MOTM E340 Cloudgenerator
The Synthesis Technology E340 contain 8 oscillators with both Sine and Saw waveforms. A front panel switch select 2, 4 or 8 oscillators active at once. There are 3 unique modulation controls/control voltage inputs: SPREAD - the active VCOs move apart in frequency, some go lower and others go higher. One VCO stays 'on pitch'. CHAOS - as this is increased, the individual VCOs receive band-pass filtered white noise components. This will cause each VCO to "wobble" in frequency. There are 8 independent filters, so each VCO will not match the others. When Chaos is at maximum, the VCO's output is nearly white noise. CHAOS BW (Bandwidth) - this adjusts the 'Q' of the bandpass filters from narrow (minimum) to very wide (maximum). The wider the Chaos BW, the faster the individual frequency modulations of each VCO occur. |

The E340 also has traditional VCO controls:
COARSE/FINE: initial VCO pitch FM: exponential frequency modulation SYNC: hard synch for all 8 VCOs. The tonal output of the E340 can vary over a wide range: from massive 8-oscillator bass lines to a "swarm of bees" effect. |

Synthesis Technology started in 1996 developing LPC (linear-predicitive
coding) speech emulators for Texas Instruments DSP ICs. In 1998, the first
MOTM modules were introduced for the hobbiest/kit market. After a review in
the March 2001 issue of "Electronic Musician" (still the single highest
rating of any hardware product in the last 9 years), demand increased and
now 12 years later MOTM is the standard for high-quality modular electronics
and sound richness. Synthesis Technology modules have been heard on movie
soundtracks ("Watchmen", "Behind Enemy Lines"), video games ("World of
Warcraft, "Unreal 2", and the upcoming "StarCraft 2") and television (Nike,
LG, Audi, Nickelodean, Cartoon Network, CNN, Fox Sports). The new E Series
of Eurorack modules extends the MOTM legacy into the world's most popular
format.
